In these collections, You could find some of my favourite tunes from celtic musical tradition arranged for acoustic flatpicking guitar, fiddle tunes (jigs – reels – hornpipes) , slow airs and Turlough O'Carolan compositions, the most famous Irish bard lived across 1670 and 1738. I have arranged these tunes for guitar tuned in “Dropped D”, starting from low E (D – A - D – G – B – E), so You have only to tune the bass E down one step. This tuning doesn't affect the fingering if you usually play in standard tuning, and it also produce the right harmonics emission of the instrument for this music. The most part of celtic music is written for solo instrument like fiddle or flutes, and have only a bass drone to sustain the chant, so I focalized my attention on melody playing few chords or open bass strings to create the right sound. You can play these tunes solo or with backup from other instuments. I didn't write in the trascriptions some of the ornaments which you can listen in the MP3 I played, because each one could play his own (this is what make tratitional music still alive).

Ho arrangiato i brani per chitarra accortata in “Dropped D”, cioè partendo dal mi basso Re – La – Re – Sol – Si - Mi, dovrete solamente abbassare il mi basso di un tono. Questa accordatura non provoca drastici cambi della diteggiatura a chi è abituato a suonare in accordatura standard e si adatta benissimo a questo tipo di musica creando le giuste risonanze dello strumento. La maggior parte dei brani celtici sono composti per strumenti monofonici, come il violino o il flauto, e suonati con solo un bordone di accompagnamento, perciò ho focalizzato l'attenzione sulle melodie, lasciando a pochi accordi o a corde suonate a vuoto il compito di creare il giusto “tappeto sonoro” per il loro sviluppo. Potrete suonarli sia da soli che facendovi accompagnare da altri strumenti. Non ho volutamente incluso nelle trascrizioni alcuni degli “abbellimenti” che ascolterete nei brani da me eseguiti, perchè ognuno (come è giusto che sia) vorrà e potrà mettercene di suoi assecondando il suo stile personale (è questo che tiene la musica tradizionale viva).
